About the Show
Magicians, puppeteers, and balladeers draw the whole family into a fantastical world—part Edward Gorey, part Disney’s Fantasia. Young Sebastian, apprentice to his magician father, ruins a show and is harshly disciplined. He attempts to run away, but a dancing handkerchief lures him into his father’s bag of tricks. Down the rabbit hole, Sebastian discovers a whimsical land where magic props have come alive. Will he ever return to his father? The New York Times wrote “audiences will fall under the show’s spell” when FCT workshopped the show in 1999. Our new production will present the show as originally conceived—with a lush soundscape of never-before-heard songs by Robert Lopez (Frozen, Book of Mormon, Avenue Q).
