Jessi D. Hill Joins FCT Artistic Staff

We’re delighted to announce that Jessi D Hill, director of FCT’s New York production of The Medicine Showdown, has joined us as our new Artistic Associate. In addition to supporting our endeavor through strategic planning, fundraising, and grant-writing, Jessi will tackle our ever increasing portfolio of finding and maintaining community partnerships. Furthermore Jessi will help to shepherd our various nascent projects towards production.

Jessi lived and worked in Chicago from 1997–2004, where she served as Artistic Director of Stage Left Theatre Company. With Stage Left she co-created LeapFest, an annual New Play Series created to showcase new socio-political theater to potential producers.

She explains her connection to our work:

“I’m thrilled to join the artistic staff of Flying Carpet Theatre in a company that takes beloved classic live entertainment genres as its inspiration, all while pursuing community and creative partnerships. I’m deeply committed to engaging as an artistic collaborator in all of Flying Carpet’s exciting new works and cannot wait to connect with all our potential partners and collaborators who can work with us to make so many unique, visionary, theatrical, entertaining projects come to life.”

Jessi works constantly as a freelance theater director, producer and dramaturg. Her recent directing projects include new plays at New York Theatre Workshop, The Public Theater/Joe’s Pub, The Playwrights’ Center, Primary Stages, Labyrinth, The Women’s Project, 59E59, The New Group, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Culture Project, The Acting Company, The Barrow Group, PS122, Baruch Performing Arts Center, New Dramatists, The Lark, The Playwrights Realm, New Georges, The Wild Project, and many others.  She has been a director in professional training programs at Yale School of Drama, Fordham University, Long Island University, Powerhouse/NY Stage & Film, NYU/Tisch, Strasberg, CAP21, The Atlantic School, Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, Hunter College and others. Her work has been seen internationally in Edinburgh, London, New Zealand, Bucharest, Berlin and Hamburg. She has served as Associate Artistic Director terraNOVA Collective NYC for 5 Seasons and is a former Artistic Director of Stage Left Theatre Company in Chicago. Jessi holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, and is member of SDC.
